Crohn ' s disease in monozygotic twins
نویسنده
چکیده
Seventeen pairs of identical twins concordant for Crohn's disease have been recorded (Table I). We describe a further set of affected twins unusual in that the disease developed simultaneously and at the same site in each patient at a time when they had been living in different environments for 6 years. As in a minority of previous reports (Crismer et al., 1963; Goldstein et al., 1976; Morichau-Beauchant et al., 1977; Klein et al., 1980; Gonzalez et al., 1983), monozygosity in our patients was investigated by histocompatibility typing and blood group analysis.

[Crohn's disease in monozygotic twins].
A pair of monozygotic twins with Crohn's disease is described. Both have ileocaecal disease and suffered their first symptoms after living apart for 6 years. The pathogenic role of hereditary and environmental factors is discussed in the light of this and previous reports of twins with Crohn's disease.

Introduction & Objective: The study of monozygotic twins is a valuable method for distinguishing the genetic and environmental etiologic factors. The purpose of this study was comparison between occlusal indices and dental arch dimensions in monozygotic twins. Materials & Methods: This descriptive study was preformed on 40 monozygotic twins that their permanent teeth were fully erupted. The ...
متن کاملIgG subclass distribution in serum and rectal mucosa of monozygotic twins with or without inflammatory bowel disease.
Serum samples from 26 monozygotic twin pairs concordant or discordant with regard to inflammatory bowel disease, and rectal biopsies from 42 twins of the same subject group, were examined for IgG subclasses. They were all compared with normal controls. Almost all affected twins were in clinical remission. Paired immunofluorescence staining of the rectal mucosa showed that those with ulcerative ...
متن کاملAnti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies in twins with inflammatory bowel disease.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS An increased occurrence of anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA) is reported in unaffected members of families with Crohn's disease. Whether ASCA is a familial trait due to genetic factors or is caused by exposure to environmental factors is unknown. To assess the genetic influence of ASCA we studied its occurrence in a twin population. PATIENTS AND METHODS ASCA ...

Since identical twins occur as a result of the division of one egg, they have the same genetic structure. Therefore, their phenotypes and sex are also always the same. However, due to the effect of environmental factors, some of the characteristics of twins living in different regions appear to develop differently. In our case of 17-year-old maternal twins, we emphasized that nasal pathologies ...
